Yes they do they got a lot more seats last time. In fact they had a great victory better than ever before. They sit with the Conservatives opposite the ones in power. They may get a lot more seats this time. or who knows they may even swing it over to them? if enough people bother to vote.
Because it’s the same as in the US. One: those two parties hold the most power. Two: people are to ignorant to realize they there are other parties they can vote for.
People still think that if they vote Labour, it will benefit the working classes at the expense of the middle classes. People still think that if they vote Conservative, it will benefit the middle classes and keep the great unwashed in their place. The fact that they both promote the same failed policies seems to be beyond most people.
People haven’t voted for the Liberal Democrats because they promoted the idea of actually paying tax to provide services rather than get them on tick and let future generations pay for them. Now they’ve jumped on the Labour/Tory something-for-nothing bandwagon, perhaps their fortunes will change. They just need to find a way of bribing Rupert Murdoch to deliver the cerebrally challenged.
I do, although my views are more in-line with the Conservatives as they have a better candidate in my area.
Party …………..Seats …Seats % …Votes % ……Votes
Labour ………….356…….55.2 ……….35.3 ……9,562,122
Conservative …..198…….30.7 ………32.3 …….8,772,598
Lib Dems ………..62………9.6 ……….22.1 ……5,981,874
Looking at the stats, the Lib Dems are the most under-represented party in Parliament. The problem is that the Lib Dems always attack the Conservatives, in the last election they made the same number of gains to the Tories as losses, yet they made large gains on Labour without tough campaigning in the constituents won. I don’t see why they don’t attack Labour more, surely there are more gains to be made here but, Lib Dems see their chance in coming into power as forming a coalition government with Labour. Therefore they’re writing their-selves off, why vote for a party that want to form a coalition with Labour when you can just vote Labour?
Because most electors have caught on to the fact that Lib Dems always sit on the fence, waiting to see which side is the best side for them to fall off
Look at the recent council elections - the LibDems beat Labour. And I bet they will do a lot better than usual in the next elections.
The Liberal party was one of the main parties until the 1920s, when Labour really grew and became more popular among the working classes. The problem now is that they are still really a split party over a number of issues. Many people view a vote for the LibDems as a wasted vote, because they are so small, which only makes worse their situation. But it’s like many of the small parties - the Greens etc. - people tend to use it as a protest vote, because they are so small.
Their policies are not popular with the majority of the electorate.
pinkhamster - your point on the lib/dems attacking the tories and (for the most part leaving labour alone) is well taken - but remember the lib/dems were born out of old labour.
they are all the same party sharing the same agreed policies to keep them in the huge trough called the EU…..doesn’t matter which! of the main three you vote for, you are voting for the same Direction…..just a different set of liars.
Clearly this isn’t the case, as they had almost 6 million voters at the last election and have a chunk of seats in both Houses of Parliament, albeit admittedly greatly under-represented.
I, however, am politically hostile to the Liberal Democrats (their policies on constitutional reform are at complete odds with mine) so I will not be voting for them.
The Liberal Democrats are the third party in the UK. So evidently, people do vote for them.
The problem is that not enough people vote for them for them to be elected into power, so that makes people who agree with their policies decide against voting for them, seeing a vote for the Lib Dems as a wasted vote.
It’s a real shame, because I agree with many of the Lib Dem policies.
As I see it, our choice in the next election is to re-elect the atrocious Labour government, or vote for the Conservatives, who, I believe, would be even worse.
because most people don’t understand that its local party that they are voting for also when do you see your local m.p only when its voting time they should do `question time ` at your local town hall that you can go to see what you locaL party’s are doing and understand what they are all about

Also, their ideas aren’t all that great.
Their policies are not popular with the majority of the electorate.
