When Freddie Head or P Bary etc., bring a horse over to race in the UK its usually not for the fresh air and with Natagora, Marchand D’or, Tamayuz, Zarkava and Montmarte showing top class form this year, do you think the French horses are looking a good bet this year (or any year).
If you answer, yes then why do you think this is?
Sir Alan
I wasn’t actually including Ballydoyle in Ireland in this question as of course Aidan O’Brien’s Operation is absolutely on a roll this year, and all power to him.
Duke of Marmalade has been one of my favourite horses for a long time and he will win the King George and Queen Elizabeth at Ascot next time out.
It’s just that trainers like Gosden, Cecil, Hills and even Stoute are failing to fire this year and the French seem to have the upper hand.
Of course there is still time for this to turn around and I hope it does.
Last year Coolmore were struggling as their horses all came to form late in the year. This year well it’s been amazing.
Calm down we all love Aiden…but give the french a little credit.
At July meeting when Marchan D’or won the July Cup I overheard a punter muttering about the french horses coming here winning all our races. But he won it well and I don’t think he beat a bad bunch of sprinters, the soft ground just found a lot of them tapped for toe. x

I am a fan of both events but I do realize that it is quite unnatural for dogs and horses to be in that type of environment and racing for humans. I have also seen pictures of gruesome cases of mistreatment of dogs at the track.

Its an equestrian business; has about 6 horses used for riding lessons etc.

Would you trat the horses as assets and depreciate? They dont compete in competitions or races and therefore would deplete in value.

A friend told me to include then as stock; but they’re not for resale.

any ideas

I wanted to play an online game, the game says
This application requires an Xtra (Havok Physics Scene) that either does not exist or failed to initialize properly. Please make sure the appropriate Xtras are in the Xtras folder(s).

when i press ok, the next thing it says:
This Shockwave movie has errors that have caused playback problems. Please contact the author of this content regarding this problem. Shockwave is unable to continue.

Any ideas or suggestions that might have happened to the game?

This is the website to the game i actually went on: http://www.games.co.uk/game/horse-race.html
I have gone on that website again, but still doesn’t work, keeps on telling me to contact that person.

I am attending a horse racing meeting in the near future (as an official photographer) and have a canon slr. I am going to be hiring a lens from www.lensesforhire.co.uk.

Which lens would be best? Obviously a telephoto, preferbly an ‘L’ lens - but which one?!! There is a 28-300mm, 100-400mm, then fixed focal lengths? Please advise.
Thanks very much guys for your answers so far, very informative and appreciated.

I need a detailed explanation, so if you don’t know, please don’t answer. I would like to know when it says : “out of a SI.89 mare” or “her mother is SI.105″ what that means. On a racing report I’m looking at, I see a column that says Sp. In. and the highest number (85) is the horse that won. So my guess is that it means “Speed Index”, but does that mean the horse with a SI.105 is WAY faster than the one with SI.85? Or does it differ race to race, depending on distance, track conditions, etc?

If you read a description of an ad for a horse for sale, and it said : “her mother is SI.105″ would that mean the horse has racing potential (it’s a yearling horse)?

If you could please shed some light on this, it would be much appreciated.

Also, what does “wire to wire, just up” mean? That she ran ahead of the rest the entire race?

Thanks in advance for any educated answers you can give me!
Thanks for the answers so far! I was looking at these colts for sale, and have been contacting the seller, and wanted to know what the terms meant that she was sending me. What do you think of these horses?

I dont really understand about, what fast, good, dead, heavy, slow and sand mean in reference to horse racing. I am assuming that fast means that the track is hard and that heavy means that it is boggy and wet though im not sure. Any help is appreciated.
