mysilv asked: When Freddie Head or P Bary etc., bring a horse over to race in the UK its usually not for the fresh air and with Natagora, Marchand D’or, Tamayuz, Zarkava and Montmarte showing top class form this year, do you think the French horses are looking a good bet this year (or any year).
If you answer, yes then why do you think this is?
Sir Alan
I wasn’t actually including Ballydoyle in Ireland in this question as of course Aidan O’Brien’s Operation is absolutely on a roll this year, and all power to him.
Duke of Marmalade has been one of my favourite horses for a long time and he will win the King George and Queen Elizabeth at Ascot next time out.
It’s just that trainers like Gosden, Cecil, Hills and even Stoute are failing to fire this year and the French seem to have the upper hand.
Of course there is still time for this to turn around and I hope it does.
Last year Coolmore were struggling as their horses all came to form late in the year. This year well it’s been amazing.
Calm down we all love Aiden…but give the french a little credit.
At July meeting when Marchan D’or won the July Cup I overheard a punter muttering about the french horses coming here winning all our races. But he won it well and I don’t think he beat a bad bunch of sprinters, the soft ground just found a lot of them tapped for toe. x
Horse Racing Odds
Yes, they have put a lot of money into their breeding program and training staff.
NO Duke Of Marmalade , Henrythenavigator , Frozen Fire , Yeats , Mount Nelson , Septimus , Ice Queen to name but seven all hail from Ireland.
Oi! you seem to be ignoring Aidan O’ Brien!
Zarkava’s beaten nothing yet and neither has Montmartre. Wait until they take on decent English and Irish opposition.
Tamayauz stole the Chantilly race on Sunday and Marchand D’Or is the best of a bad bunch of sprinters.
genrally speaking, i dont really know!
but i am impressed with the french mare….. darjina!
i backed her in hong kong late last year and she won, beating good ba ba, i also had her in my quinella with haradasun in the race at ascot, last month!
she a real good mare!
the french had only 3 british group 1 uk winners last year compared to 18 from british stables and 10 from ireland.
this year the french have took 2 so far ,britian 4 and ireland 9..
to me i think only promising lead and kingsgate native are our best chances to add to our tally for the remainder of the season and maybe pheonixc tower/ravens pass could get lucky for once.
aiden o brien looks certain to domiate most british group 1’s remaing with duke of marmalade, henry and co.
Marchand D’or as possibilities in the haydock sprint cup or numthorpe ,although he is due to run in france next.
montmarte/zarkova will almost certainly go the traditional arc route and not run in britian .i think duke of marmalde and montmarte are looking most likely strong arc candidates.
tamauz is also france bound again.wouldnt think he could beat henrythenavigator though on a formline with ravens pass.
message to whoever said darjina won in hong kong beating good ba ba,it was the other way round ,good ba ba won and darjina came 3rd in the hong kong mile .darjina is on a 5 race losing streak now
