Baa_Baa_Blacksheep asked:

Some greyhounds go back with the breeder, some are killed, and some are adopted out. Well the same goes for horses so why are people all against greyhound racing and not horse racing?

I did a report and seen it all…a lot of the worst pictures shown in greyhound racing come from Ireland…not the US where NGA will suspend you for animal abuse in a heartbeat.

horse racing is cruel
most of those horses are sent to the slaughter house when they don’t get sold, and they bateley get sold.
horse racing is okay cuz it’s “the sport of kings”
we americans hurt those animals and pump them with steroids when they are 1 years old and make them race and whip them to death
when they are 5 they are sent to die.

Perhaps because some people, depending on the state they live in, are more likely to adopt a retired race horse or one determined to be unfit for racing than to adopt a greyhound for the same reason.
I don’t care for either so-called sport.
I understand what you mean about greyhounds. Even the champion racers spend too much time in a crate. Maybe people think horses are allowed more freedom.
I live in the US and have volunteered with several dog/cat adoption agencies. I’ve seen many retired greyhounds who were terrified of strangers. After they would get to know me, they would try to climb up my leg because they were so terrified of strangers. I can’t explain it.

you know thats a great question. there are so many things like that going on.
i will be interested to see what answers you get.

worst ones I ever saw came from a GREYHOUND RESCUE

since there developed a groundswell to rehome the retired racer - well if there being rescued it MUST be from a bad situation so every form of cruelty a person can imagine is projected onto the greyhound track even if on the face of it CAN”T be routine as it will ruin dogs running potential.

Losing racehorses can’t be housed by most of the public and disappear quietly to a can of alpo

A lot of people DO consider horse racing cruel. I don’t know who told you otherwise, but they were mistaken.

There is huge money behind horse racing. Hollywood money. Arab sheik money. TV network money. They can afford lawyers and would destroy any group that tried to slander them.

Greyhound racing is a Mom & Pop business made up mostly of small breeders. In most Greyhound families one of the spouses works while the other tends the farm. They pay their mortgage and feed bills and don’t have much left over for lawyers.

That’s why they are an easy mark for well-funded “animal rights” groups like PETA and HSUS that get millions in donations, but do no adoptions themselves. PETA, apparently, can’t be bothered with it. They put down 97% of the animals they take in.
