You shouldn’t have purchased a horse without its full medical and racing history. If you need more information, you should go straight to the previous owners!

Try the Jockey club or Racing stud site, you might find what you are looking for there

They used to attach the racing history on a second sheet attached to the horse’s papers.

Now, to answer your question, the bottom line is, it’s tough to get much information for free.
Equineline (http://www.equineline.com) is the best site I know of for free pedigree information, assuming you know his registered name. They also provide other info, but you have to pay.
If you decide it’s worth it to pay something, the Jockey Club is definitely your best option. They have all the information. They may want his registration number as well, so if you do not have his papers, it should be tattooed on the inside of his upper lip. They can be hard to read, so I recommend taking a photo of it, that way you can play around with contrast and whatnot with a photo program. Also, you can try shining a flashlight under his lip which can make it easier to read.

Go to the following site and input his name in the upper left corner labeled horse and hit enter. It will pull up the horses pedigree and it’s racing history. You can also pull down pictures of all the sires. Pretty cool site.

Equiline is great too. It will detail each race and give you a detailed info on his racing career instead of an overview. You have to pay for that one though.

You should look and see if he has a lip tattoo most do and then you can trace it

You dont need to know your horses full history before purchasing i have bought and sold race horses and didnt knwo all there details and the people i sold to didnt ask!
I wouold see which club he was registered with. Contact weatherbys or any registration details you can find.

If you are in the UK, then Weatherbys is the place to go. The website is

Your horse should have a tattoo on his,her upper lip. You need that information. For instance 861374, a foal of 1986, would have a P to replace the 86. Q is 1987 and so on. The toll free number can be obtained by call the Jockey Club in Lexington Kentucky. 1-800-333-1778. This was their number several years ago. You will have to pay a fee to get their track info. A standard search used to be 35.00 and a deluxe search was 50.00. That fee may be higher now.
I had a retired racer years ago. You have a job ahead of you.

hi i have a ex-racer to , go into the racing post put in his/her racing name and it will come up with the racing results also with my horse (Irish blessing USA if you like to look) you can down load the videos to of them racing which is cool also go to pedigreequery.com and you with be able to track down the ancestors of them and see there pictures hope this helps you it did me let me know how get on its fun to see i didnt get any information on him even though i did ask take a look and have some fun !!
