I am looking for my second horse to learn parelli with. I want to be a parelli instructor, and I need a horse that already knows the basics to help me learn. I also want the horse to be an allround fun type, that i can jump and hack on too. It needs to be around 16hh, and in my area of england. Around the age of 6 would be perfect.

Look what I found.

I’ve fallen in love with him already!! ONE PROBLEM. £4500 is quite a bit over my price range. I was hoping to find something for no more than £3000. Thing is, i’m 16 and my parents would be paying, and they are worried about paying this much. :( But surely its better to spend a bit more on the right one than buying the wrong one beacause its cheaper.
Also, he’s an ex race horse, would this cause him future health problems? He’s only 6, so he can’t have raced for long.

I need a detailed explanation, so if you don’t know, please don’t answer. I would like to know when it says : “out of a SI.89 mare” or “her mother is SI.105″ what that means. On a racing report I’m looking at, I see a column that says Sp. In. and the highest number (85) is the horse that won. So my guess is that it means “Speed Index”, but does that mean the horse with a SI.105 is WAY faster than the one with SI.85? Or does it differ race to race, depending on distance, track conditions, etc?

If you read a description of an ad for a horse for sale, and it said : “her mother is SI.105″ would that mean the horse has racing potential (it’s a yearling horse)?

If you could please shed some light on this, it would be much appreciated.

Also, what does “wire to wire, just up” mean? That she ran ahead of the rest the entire race?

Thanks in advance for any educated answers you can give me!
Thanks for the answers so far! I was looking at these colts for sale, and have been contacting the seller, and wanted to know what the terms meant that she was sending me. What do you think of these horses?

I just read a shocking news article that set me thinking whether the industry of horse racing shouldn’t fund new ways to heal horses so that they aren’t put down as they have been up till now when they fall and break a leg. Currently the healing process is long and painful and “economically unsound” which is why the industry usually prefers to “cut its losses” and avoid suffering to the animal, but surely there must be advances in human medicine that can be applied to veterinary medicine and at least save an animal’s life, let alone perhaps even get it racing again. We don’t shoot broken athletes, do we?
