AtS- Abraxas asked:

After all, it is not as if they were rushed into a statement after the best part of 8 months! Excuse my French, but surely this does not in any way reply.

Views please.

We received a petition asking:

“We the undersigned petition the Prime Minister to ask the BBC to retain its current levels of horseracing coverage, as befits a public service broadcaster, and to reinstate the 15 days that it currently proposes to scrap from 2010.”

    Details of Petition:

“Ten years ago the BBC covered 79 days of horseracing; this year it’s 27; by 2010 it will be only 14 unless the BBC can be reminded of its obligations as a public service broadcaster and scraps plans for emasculating its reportage of a sport which appeals to the widest demographic of all. The consequences go well beyond the leisure preferences of the six million TV licence payers that annually visit racecourses. By cherry picking the dual purpose “social” events such as the Derby, Royal Ascot and the Grand National (which attracted viewing figures of 10 million this time) the BBC is reckless as to the future of the supporting tier. Any reduction in terrestrial exposure will hasten the contraction of the industry, jeopardising 20,000 full-time jobs and the racing industry tax contribution of £280 million a year.”

· Read the petition
· Petitions homepage
Read the Government’s response

The BBC is required to maintain a strong public service broadcasting output. It aims to ensure that licence fee payers have access to varied programming. However, responsibility for what is broadcast on BBC television and radio rests with the BBC, which is independent of the Government.

The BBC’s governing instruments, the Royal Charter and Agreement, place broad obligations on the Corporation in respect of its television and radio services, objectives, programme content and standards. Within this framework detailed decisions on programme content and scheduling are matters for the BBC, reflecting its editorial independence.

The Government believes it is important that the Corporation is aware of the concerns of viewers and listeners, and anyone who wishes to raise their concerns over this issue can contact the BBC in various ways: via the website, http://www.bbc.co.uk, by telephone 03700 100 222, or write to BBC Complaints, PO Box 1922, Glasgow G2 3WT).

Grand National

Spify23 asked:

I’m curious to know what this horse would beworth in the US or UK etc. I live in South Africa and he recently sold for R45 000 (aound $6500 straight conversion).
Name: My Little Treasure
Age: 7 years old (3/11/2002)
Breed: Thoroughbred (Sire: National Emblem. Grand Sire: Al Mufti) [2 top racing stallions in South Africa]
Colour: Liver chestnut
Height: 16.1hh
Gender: Gelding
Tempermant: very calm, almost bombproof.
Training: Professionally schooled up to Novice Dressage and 1.10m Show Jumping courses. Does leg-yield, shoulder in, travers, roll backs, back ups, collections and extensions, flying changes and counter canter etc
Competiton: Competed up to 1.10m and Novice Dressage at ungraded level, registered at 90cm Show Jumping, Prelim Dressage and Prelim Eventing and Welcome Equitation. Competed in open showing aswell
About: Treasure has exceptional movement with a nice flowing gait and bold jump. Will take the right rider to the top or be a nice comfortable horse for a novice to learn on. Treasure never bucks, spooks or stops. Is near bombproof; will walk over tarps, under lines, allow you to mount/dismount from either side (won reserve Working Riding Champs), is not phased by other animals and noises (gunfire, popping balloons etc). Stands still to be tacked up without beung cross-tied. Is a pleaure for the farrier and vet. Holds riders of all ages and experience levels and looks after them. Is currently barefoot and lives out all year round. Never had feet problem and should be able to continue to stay barefoot, never been sick or lame in the 3 years I owned him. Deworming and vaccs are upto date. Very sad sale as I am moving overseas and can’t bare to leave my baby.

Asking R50 000 neg. (around $7150)

http://sphotos.ak.fbcdn.net/photos-ak-sf2p/v217/211/59/576101574/n576101574_393668_2710.jpg
Nicole - Technically he would be 7 and a half years old but as he was born November 2002 it makes him 7 years old to date. And he is in fact a liver chestnut. If you look carefully his point’s are chestnut and not black. If he had black points he would be a bay, but as he doesn’t, he’s a liver chestnut. Also his mane and tail aren’t true black. Tthe photo isn’t a very good show of it.

I’m only wanting to know what a horse like this would be worth outside of SA as I habe recently noticed a huge price difference in things, and as I’m moving overseas I’m trying to learn where that price difference lies.

Grand National Tips

Green Tee asked:

If a guy borrows money from a girl by lying about his circumstances but then girl asks for money back (but has nothin written on paper, only bank statements and no doubt her verbal agreement) but the guy takes a transfer at his work firm to the states from the UK for a good number of months.
Then chances of pursuing this debt are nil right?
the guy is a good friend of mine and he has changed his address, isnt on the Electoral role, has never owned property and isnt a brit cit, has permanent residence though and hes originally south asian. hes confident hes untraceable by her. I personally dont agree with this and have told him that if the money was so easy to take ie money transfer-to just return it back, to her in the same way, since he must still have her bank details..he refuses.
I dont know what happened with this girl he claims they were romantic (but i’ve never seen any photos of him with her and get the feeling she was a cyber friend only) and they never lived together or shared any property…nothing he claims. He said that she claims they were definately not romantic and feels she was scammed.
He says hes made himself untraceable but my moral voice of reason has kicked in ever since i heard the amount he told me took.. its quite a lot …and frankly its suspicious as there was one week where he flew to dubai , bought tons of gold and had a nose job.
dont get me wrong he gets paid well at the firm he works at but not enough to blow 5 grand (UK pounds) in 3 days!! I’m happy for him and by no means jealous if hes spending hard earned wages and paying taxes..but i have sisters and female friends and if a guy ever did anything like that to them, i would be livid.
Should I speak to him once more to return the money or tell him or warn him of the repercussions on his US visa , if the visa authorities or his multi national IT firm find out?
thanks for your feedback. i havent used names, ages or company titles-so this isnt a public admission to anything.
thankyou again , have a great evening .

Horse Racing Basics

Philip P asked:

Since 1999 the only 250cc motorbikes you saw in the shops were either non road legal motocrossers or bikes you’d see your grand dad on…
BUT now, Kawasaki Honda and Yamaha have all introduced or reintroduced sub 33 bhp 250 cc sports bikes.
Mopeds are no longer capable of 31 mph BUT only 28mph ( the Euro limit for a taxable reg bike) That one was sneaked in they even have a RED LINE on the speedo showing this ( not tacho speedo ok)
Our rural roads increasingly are being restricted to 50mph (80 kmh) not the national speed limit This is the speed limit having been applied to non urban roads europe.
Even in towns increasingly the limit is being reduced to 20mph (30 kmh) again in line with urban europe..
I’m all for safety But shouldn’t there be a choice?

Does this mean that 14 year olds will be able to ride untaxed un licenced un insured 49cc 28 mph scooters on cycleways????
sorry it should be 28kmh non reg non taxed non insured moped
Timbo & Tim D you both have excellent answers i’d like to vote for both I can’t
So i’m opening it up to a public vote

Horse Racing Odds
