If you bet each way on a 5-horse race, where the bookie offers 1st and 2nd, and a horse (not your horse) subsequently pulls out before the race, making it “win-only”, would they refund the each-way portion on the bet? i.e. £10 each way on 5-horse, if it becomes 4 horses, do you get the £10 each-way part of the stake back?
I now have the answer as far as William Hill and Betfred are concerned. But will leave it open for anyone after points.
Today’s 4.55 at Perth is a case in point, since it switched from 5 to 4 horses. Each-way 1st and 2nd on a 4-horse race must be fairly rare, because effectively you’re covering half the field. Then again, it depends on the difference between the odds on each horse.
